U17 Soccer World Cup in India: WISKA keeps their fingers crossed for HSV talent Fiete Arp on Friday
Great opening match by Fiete Arp at the U17 Soccer World Cup in India: With a goal and a pass, he led the German Team to a 2:1 victory against Costa Rica. What a performance! In the game on Tuesday, the team had less success and the youngsters got a 0:4 defeat by Iran. That’s why they have to fear about getting kicked out of the World Cup at their game on Friday.
„We will definitely keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming match on Friday. As well as the employees of our subsidiary in India. They also assure us of their mental support. So it can only be a good match against Guinea,“ says Ronald Hoppmann, Managing Director of WISKA as well as a big fan of the Hamburger SV (HSV) Bundesliga team.
The U17 Soccer World Cup takes place in India from 6 - 28 of October with all eyes on the young Hamburg talent Fiete Arp (17).
"Fiete Arp is a great example of what can happen if we strengthen young people and foster their talent. We are delighted that he has gained self-confidence at the HSV academy to play big on the international stage. Of course, this also involves handling defeats.“ says Ronald Hoppmann.
For the 2017/18 soccer season in Germany, WISKA is one of the first companies in the newly founded support group for HSV young talents.
"Young people need a chance to prove themselves. This is the only way of building a bridge to the future. That is why we have expanded our partnership with the HSV by supporting their youth promotion program," says Ronald Hoppmann, who is leading the WISKA company together with his sister Tanja Hoppmann, in the third generation.
Promoting young talent is important for WISKA. In addition to a comprehensive apprenticeship of the junior employees, the focus is set on self-responsible action. From internal projects to representing the company at established fairs – the young employees learn the meaning of actively shaping the company and take on responsibility.
WISKA becomes official sponsor of HSV young talents
After starting sponsoring the Hamburger SV (HSV) as an „Official Supplier“ in 2016, we now have extended our support for the long-established German Bundesliga football team during the season 2017 / 18. But above this, this time we especially support the HSV young talents – being one of the first companies in HSV´s newly formed association for young talents.
Together with HSV CEO Herbert Bruchhagen, we are happy to continue our collaboration: “The fact that WISKA is continuing to sponsor the HSV demonstrates great trust in the partnership. As a sponsor of our junior teams, our partner is now also getting involved in the vocational and advanced training of our young football players. There isn’t enough praise that can be said for this commitment.”

Chinese New Year
Our colleagues in China celebrate the New Year which starts on January 28th. According to the Chinese zodiac 2017 is the year of the Rooster. Chinese New Year also called Spring Festival looks back on more than 4,000 years of history.
It is the grandest and the most important annual event for Chinese people. Unlike the Christian New Year which is based on a solar calendar, the Chinese New Year is based on a traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar whose date indicates both the moon phase and the time of the solar year. The "Spring Festival" - another name for the Chinese New Year ends with the Lantern Festival. Then beautiful lanterns are displayed and sweet rice dumpling soup is eaten.
We wish our colleagues in China a happy new year.
Change of our company´s name: WISKA Hoppmann GmbH
After our foundation by Wilhelm Hoppmann and Hermann Mulsow in 1919, we decided to highlight our brand name “WISKA” – translated an abbreviation for “waterproof cable fittings encapsulated in insulating material” – by placing it in front of the company´s name. At all times, however, both founding family names were part of the name, even after the Mulsow family had left the company more than 50 years ago.
Now that we are looking forward to celebrating our 100th anniversary in two years, we think it is time to adapt our name to the reality. At WISKA you meet the Hoppmann family with its team of worldwide 260 employees – in person and on site. Therefore starting from 23rd January we operate under the name of WISKA Hoppmann GmbH.
New machines for WISKA production plant
WISKA extends its manufacturing capacity in Kaltenkirchen by a second moulding production hall:
Since 2016 WISKA now has 29 injection moulding machines for plastic manufacturing at its headquarters. Eight even have the possibility of 2 component injection moulding. WISKA therefore expands its competence in plastic manufacturing not only by the development of new product lines like CONMAXX and Brace, but also by making sure that the production capacities meet the constant high customer demand.
VDE certifies WISKA cable glands according to DIN EN 62444
WISKA is one of the first manufacturers that has received the mark approval DIN EN 62444 by the VDE after the former norm DIN EN 50626 has expired by 23.09.2016.
In this international norm requirements for construction and production of cable glands for electrical installations are defined. The Institute of VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) tests and certifies the compliance with these requirements.
For a major part of the SPRINT cable gland system by WISKA the VDE Institute has now officially given its mark approval. This means that the standard cable glands of the SPRINT system made of polyamide, brass and stainless steel are certified according to the new norm. Furthermore all variants with bend protection as well as EMC inserts receive the VCE certification with the number 40006479.
New Productline for Cable Protection premieres at Innotrans
The Innotrans has just taken place in Berlin and we are happy to see that customers share our excitement for our new product line – the cable protection system “Brace”.
Heart of the new product line is the BraceGLAND, an innovative non-metallic fitting, developed and produced in-house at WISKA´s headquarters in Kaltenkirchen, North of Hamburg. BraceCONDUITS and BraceSLEEVES complete the new Brace series.
The development of the WISKA cable protection system was rated as especially innovative by the German federal state of Schleswig Holstein and is therefore financially supported with means of the ERDF.
